Posted by Mark | Filed under Blog, News, Next events Having just had an amazing weekend away (Congratulations and thanks again to Ben and Danni we hope you enjoy your honeymoon as much as we enjoyed your wedding). We find ourselves in the position where due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to withdraw from our events on this August bank holiday weekend. We apologise to all concerned especially The Mytchett Family Fun Day on Monday. Being held at the Mytchett Centre (140 Mytchett Road, GU16 6AA) where there will be inflatable rides, music, arena events, stalls of all shapes and sizes, a Bar and much more. It opens at 12pm and closes at 4pm. Entrance is free and car parking is a £1. So if you are in the area or just want a good afternoon out in the last of the summer, pop along and have some fun with the family. This all means that our next public event is Heroes at Highclere, on the 8th and 9th September 2018 (where Downton Abbey is filmed). Lord and Lady Carnarvon are offering this last opportunity to visit the Castle and grounds before they are close to the public prior to the start of filming of the Downton Abbey Movie. However it is more than that, the weekend is about raising money for numerous charities (including but not restricted to The Royal British Legion, Combat Stress, The RAF Appeal, SSAFA, and UK Sepsis Trust). “ This weekend is to raise money for those who serve and those who save. There were many heroes who both died and survived during those terrible years as there are today. The lives of veterans or doctors, nurses or journalists were and are compromised in ways we can barely understand. Join us to support them. We hope Heroes at Highclere 2018 will be a fascinating and meaningful weekend”. ~ Lady Carnarvon The weekend is full of educational, exciting and spectacular events, including, an air show each day from 11pm to 5 pm consisting of, on Saturday, there will be B17 Flying Fortress, Spitfire, Great War Display Team, Red Arrows, de Havilland Nine Formation Team, and the Poppy Parachute Team. Then on Sunday, a P51 Mustang, Poppy Parachute Team, de Havilland Nine Formation Team, B17 Flying Fortress, Great War Display Team, and Spitfire. You will also be able to Hear Julian Fellowes, Kate Adie, Robert Harris, The Indian High Commissioner and other well-known authors and journalists in the Speakers’ tent, listen to the Portsmouth Military Wives Choir and Alex Mendham & his Orchestra, learn how to dance the Charleston with The Gatsby Girls and enjoy a fairground ride! Vintage car displays, have Cream Tea on the lawn, and visit a ‘History of Flight’ tent detailing the planes and crew which crashed at Highclere and football. Gates open at 9am and the event closes at 6:30 pm each day. For more information and to book tickets visit their websitehttps://highclerecastleshop.co.uk/categories/heroes-at-highclere.
