That is May done and dusted

As May draws to a close, it is time to reflect on what must have been one of our busiest months ever. We travelled in excess of 700 miles, attended nine days of public events andBalloon Night glow
started over 1000 games. Also that doesn’t take in our private functions and events.  On the down side we have had a few casualties by way of equipment, however considering the number of games played it was minimal.

So what is next I hear you ask. Due to private events and other commitments (staff studying, exams etc) June is going to be a quiet month although we will be busy most of the time.  Our next public event is on Saturday 30 June at Tidworth Garrison Armed forces day. This is being held on the sports field on the  A388 and St Andrew’s Road. There will be lots of stalls, inflatable rides, possibly a beer tent, arts and crafts, and much more. Tidworth AFD 2018The fun starts
at midday and is due to close at 5 pm, however for more information see their face book page (click here) For a relatively new event it should be well worth a visit.

Then on Sunday the 1 July we will be at the Blind Veterans armed forces day. The event is being held at Blind Veterans Centre in Ovingdean, Brighton starting at 10:30 am and closing at 4 pm, there will be  a full arena with a military marching band, Sussex Cadet Kit Car Challenge, Military and classic vehicles, Have a go archery, craft stalls and refreshments. Not forgetting Battlefield South will be at both events!

Late May Bank Holiday Weekend

Firstly a quick word about last weekend, and what a weekend that was! The team arrived at Ragley Hall, a little later than expected due to traffic conditions, but they got there in time to settle in and see the show on Friday night.  All of which was amazing, as was the rest of the week ends events. With the gates opening at 3 pm and balloon flights, the main part of the show started at about 8pm, including an air display, a night glow to music and concluding with a firework display. In total there were over 200 balloon lift offs over the course of the weekend, which is amazing in itself. If you didn’t make it, and would like to see what you missed, check out the web pages (www.midlandsairfestival.com) or their Face book page.

Well that is our excuse for not getting this week ends event out before now, out of the way. So here we go!

Saturday 26th May, we kick off the weekend Alton Town Park Festivalat the Alton Town Park Festival. It is a great little event held in the town park with live music, fresh food of all sorts, craft stalls, inflatables, and of course Battlefield South. The event starts at 10 am, and closes at about 4 pm. Entrance is free, and it is a lovely day out with the main high street just around the corner. If you are in the area it would be great to see you.

From there we move on to Aldershot and get ready for the Gurkha Cup on Gurkha Cup 2018
Sunday 27th As always held on Queens Avenue, Aldershot. Celebrating it’s 16th year, this is a multicultural experience and an amazing event where East meets West to take part in a fun packed day showing of both Nepalese and English crafts, styles, food, and events, thinly disguised as a football competition. Depending on the weather and wind speeds the “Silver Stars” (the RLC parachute display team) will land in the arena
with the first match ball.  It really is a great day out not to be missed with a great atmosphere. The day starts at 10am and closes with the presentations at approximately 5 pm. For more information visit

.

When the final whistle is blown, it is then a very quick de rig and away for us so we can get to Middle Wallop, and the Museum of Army Flying. Monday 28th May  is their annual late May bank holiday event (War Time Wallop) and what an event it is.
Full of historic re-enactment and living history groups, displays of all sorts, including firing field artillery, military vehicles, helicopters and even a bomb disposal (UXB)
demonstration. Also for the first time at this event, we will be providing games to the public for free. Yes the price of your game with us is included in the entrance price. You can play as many times as you like, (although you will have to join the back of the queue at the end of each game).  Also included in the entrance price is access to the Museum which is well worth a visit and look around, as it takes you through the history of military aviation. For more information visit their web site
www.armyflying.com
Parking is free, and the day starts at 10 am and closes at 4:30 pm.

However there is no time to sit Dragon Boat Raceback on our laurels, as this  Sunday we will be at the Portsmouth Dragon Boat Festival, being held at Lakeland, North harbour.  As last year it is only on for the one day, and with archery from the Scouts, food and drink stalls, inflatable attractions as well as the dragon boat racing it will no doubt be a great day out for the whole family.
