It is the first May Bank Holiday weekend and the show season starts here with a bang. We kick off on Sunday 5th of May at the Abingdon Air and Country Show. Tickets are still on sale via their website. or alternatively can be purchased on the day at the event. The air and ground displays are too numerous to mention them all but you can check out their website for details. for details.
Then on Monday 6th May we will be at St Mary’s Church, in Fratton, Portsmouth for their annual community fayre. This is always a fantastic day with fair rides, craft stalls, arena displays, a beer tent, and much more. The fair helps to generate funds for charities and good causes across the area and is well worth attending. Entrance is free so all thye money generated comes from the stall holders and amusements. If Abingdon is a tad too far why not pop down to St Mary’s Church, on Monday and help us to help the community. Posted by Mark | Filed under Blog, News Our mobile season and shows have finally come to an end for this year, which is always a sad time as the team have spent so many cold, wet, hot, dry, days and nights together over the last months However everything comes to an end, even the good times. On that note we would like to say a sad farewell to some members of staff , who have moved on to hopefully bigger and better things, and we as a company and a family would like to wish them all the very best in their future. So firstly we would like to say a fond farewell to Fin Cole, who had been with us for about 15 months. He was very well versed in all sides of our operation, and had been ear marked to move up into the Senior Game Marshal, and be my second in command when away on mobile events. He will be Sorley missed as the loss of experience, knowledge of the systems, where items were packed and accessed, show layouts, and his ever growing customer facing skills will be hard to replace. He was a very valued member of the team. However opportunities arose elsewhere and we can only wish him the very best, with his GCSE’s and for whatever the future holds for him. As well as thank him for his understanding and support during his time with the team. Next we have to say good bye to my second in command, and right hand man Wills. Being my son meant he got all the worst jobs, had to put in the longest hours and suffer the boss contacting him all times of day and night. His knowledge of the operation was only matched by myself, and at times he would correct me when I didn’t have things 100%. This will be a massive loss to the operation and the company. Those who would wish to fill his shoes will have an unrelenting uphill task just to get close. However it has to be said, this was only to be expected as he had been helping out, (mostly unpaid) from the very beginning at the tender age of 8 right up to and including during his GCSE’s and A levels. Again we can only wish him the very best as he now, settles in to his new life at university studying Physics. I am sure (I hope) he will be back during those reading weeks and long holidays to cast an expert eye over proceedings and tell me I am doing it wrong! Lastly we have the saddest duty of all, and that is to say good bye to Oli. Again, as my son, he had been with us on and off since the very beginning. Being only about 12 when we first started he worked with us all the way through his GCSE’s, A levels and on occasions whilst in full time employment, (again mostly unpaid). He loved taking part in the games, testing his skills and also making games fun for others. Although wasn’t so keen on the rigging and Oli had not been well for some time and because of this was unable to take part as much as he would have liked. Unfortunately Oli succumbed to his illness a couple of weeks ago, (September 2018) and he is and will be greatly missed as a son, brother and work mate. Posted by Mark | Filed under Blog, News, Next events Having just had an amazing weekend away (Congratulations and thanks again to Ben and Danni we hope you enjoy your honeymoon as much as we enjoyed your wedding). We find ourselves in the position where due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to withdraw from our events on this August bank holiday weekend. We apologise to all concerned especially The Mytchett Family Fun Day on Monday. Being held at the Mytchett Centre (140 Mytchett Road, GU16 6AA) where there will be inflatable rides, music, arena events, stalls of all shapes and sizes, a Bar and much more. It opens at 12pm and closes at 4pm. Entrance is free and car parking is a £1. So if you are in the area or just want a good afternoon out in the last of the summer, pop along and have some fun with the family. This all means that our next public event is Heroes at Highclere, on the 8th and 9th September 2018 (where Downton Abbey is filmed). Lord and Lady Carnarvon are offering this last opportunity to visit the Castle and grounds before they are close to the public prior to the start of filming of the Downton Abbey Movie. However it is more than that, the weekend is about raising money for numerous charities (including but not restricted to The Royal British Legion, Combat Stress, The RAF Appeal, SSAFA, and UK Sepsis Trust). “ This weekend is to raise money for those who serve and those who save. There were many heroes who both died and survived during those terrible years as there are today. The lives of veterans or doctors, nurses or journalists were and are compromised in ways we can barely understand. Join us to support them. We hope Heroes at Highclere 2018 will be a fascinating and meaningful weekend”. ~ Lady Carnarvon The weekend is full of educational, exciting and spectacular events, including, an air show each day from 11pm to 5 pm consisting of, on Saturday, there will be B17 Flying Fortress, Spitfire, Great War Display Team, Red Arrows, de Havilland Nine Formation Team, and the Poppy Parachute Team.
