It will be packed full of demonstrations, show and tell by living historians, re-enactors, air craft fly pasts, live music and dancing (1940 style). Additionally there will be armoured and “soft skin” fighting vehicles of World War 2 era, and a firing 3.7 inch field gun. As well as “Have a go training sessions” with the Home Guard re-enactors, traders and arts and crafts of the era. It is also hopped that there will be a flypast of the Battle of Brittan Memorial Flight, Hopefully including a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster. There will also be a “Sail Past” of vintage boats and ships. The whole event is free to attend on both days. However if you at are interested in 1940 music and dance there is a dance night on Saturday starting at 7pm and ending at 10:30 pm. This is a ticket only evening as there is only room for 750 people, discounted tickets can still be purchased (at time of writing) using the discount code “Swing Dance”. Tickets can be purchased from
www.eventbrite.co.uk

or the Tourist Information Centre.

On Sunday 2 June it all happens again with the addition of a remembrance parade with a guard from HMS Sultan commemorating all those that fell during the war, (Including: the playing of   Last post, followed by a minutes silence, and then the playing of Reveille).  The parade starts at about 10:45 and the service will be held near to the Canadian memorial at 11am on the promenade and attended by some VIPs.

There will be something for everyone in the family and both days promise to be a great day out.

War Time Wallop 2019

Wartime wallop 2019Yes the annual show at The Museum of Army Flying at the home of the Army Air Corp Middle Wallop is on again, and following last year’s success, is looking to be bigger and better than ever. The day starts at 10am and closes at 4:30 pm. Parking is (we believe) free,  as always. There will be the usual craft stalls and Visitor programmefood stalls with live music and singing entertainment, from the “Decibelles”  and Dancing from the “Andover Lindyhoppers”.  Additionally there will be inflatable rides, demonstrations of bomb disposal, historic aircraft, and a hot air balloon. Not  to mention right at the end of the field Battlefield South Mobile Laser Tag game which like last year is included in you entre price.

It really is a packed event and the admission fee includes entrance to the newly refurbished Museum with much more aircraft, and displays.

It is the first May Bank Holiday weekend and the show season starts here with a bang. We kick off on Sunday 5th of May at the Abingdon Air and Country Show.

or alternatively can be purchased on the day at the event. The air and ground displays are too numerous to mention them all but you can check out their website for details.

for details. Then on Monday 6th May we will be at St Mary’s Church, in Fratton, Portsmouth for their annual community fayre.

This is always a fantastic day with fair rides, craft stalls, arena displays, a beer tent, and much more. The fair helps to generate funds for charities and good causes across the area and is well worth attending. Entrance is free so all thye money generated comes from the stall holders and amusements. If Abingdon is a tad too far why not pop down to St Mary’s Church, on Monday and help us to help the community.
